After a bit of a break, it’s time to head to the coast of Jalisco for this so-called tropical IPA from Los Cuentos, a brewery in the resort city of Puerto Vallarta (PV)

I cracked it and quickly went in for a sniff to be greeted by a fruity and fresh aroma.

It poured well with a nice head and a slightly darker than average appearance for an IPA.

The beer is nice but it doesn’t deliver as much as on the palate as it did on the nose.

It’s only barely bitter – in IPA terms – and there’s not that much of interest in the overall flavour.

As the tropical IPA moniker suggests, this brew would be fine on the beach of Vallarta to elongate the refreshed feeling after a quick dip in the Pacific but it falls well short of the mark set by some of the more serious IPAs from further north in Mexico.

The kick is strong though, after a couple of prior base beers – what I call the commercial stuff: to provide a platform and keep costs down – I’ve got a nice little buzz.

Worth trying once but I doubt I’ll swig it again unless I find myself salty after a swim at PV.

Después de un breve descanso, ya es hora para ir a la costa de Jalisco para esta llamada tropical IPA de Los Cuentos, una cerveceria en la ciudad turística de Puerto Vallarta (PV).

La abrí y un olor afrutado y fresco me saludó. Se sirve bien con una buena espuma y su apariencia es más oscura de lo normal para una IPA.

La cerveza es buena pero su sabor en en el paladar no es tan bueno como uno esperaría al olerla.

Para ser una IPA, no es suficientemente amarga y su sabor no captura tanto el interés.

Como el nombre de tropical IPA sugiere, esta chela sería buena en una playa de Vallarta para alargar el sentimiento refrescante después de un sumergida rápida en el Pacífico pero falta mucho para llegar al estándar de las IPAs más serias del norte de México.

Sin embargo, el efecto es fuerte, después de un par de chelas bases – como describo yo las cervezas comerciales: para dar una plataforma y mantener los costos bajos – me han puesto feliz.

Vale la pena probarla una vez pero yo dudo que la tomaría de nuevo sino que me encuentro salado después de haber ido a nadar en PV.
