On the label of this “IPA”, it says that Patito (the brewery) “is a rebellion against all commercial beers that lack flavour and especially character.”

But while this brew from Mérida has “some” flavour, in the world of IPAs – especially good ones – it simply doesn’t cut the mustard. For all intents and purposes it’s not one.  

Nugget, Cascade and Chinook hops are all thrown into the mix – apparently – but there is none of the hoppy goodness or alluring aroma that a good, or half decent IPA, should have. 

I was in Mérida last year and drank another one of Patito’s beer, the straight out Pale Ale, and it was good but this one falls short of the mark. Disappointing.

En la etiqueta de esta “IPA,” dice que Patito (la cervercería) “es una rebelión en contra de todas esas cervezas comerciales que carecen de sabor y sobre todo de carácter.”

Pero aunque esta chela de Mérida tiene “algo” de sabor, en el mundo de las IPAs – especialmente las buenas – simplemente no está a la altura. Realmente no es una IPA.

Tiene lúpulo Nugget, Cascade y Chinook – aparentemente – pero no hay nada de la bondad lupulosa o aroma seductor que una buena, o media decente IPA, debería tener. 

Estuve en Mérida el año pasado y tomé otra cerveza de Patito, la simple Pale Ale, y estuvo buena pero esta no cumplió mis expecativas. Decepcionante.
