POSTCARD FROM TRINIDAD, CUBA

The well preserved colonial streets of Trinidad are a photographer’s paradise.  Unfortunately, because of a  misadventure in Havana (long story), I arrived in Trinidad without a camera.  Cuba is not the easiest place to buy a new camera.  Prior to arriving I spent a couple of days looking for one to no avail.  After asking […]

LAGARTIJA

I was lucky to see this creature basking in the sun at Copan Ruins in Honduras.  Incidentally lagartija (lizard) is one of my favourite words in Spanish – has a great sound to it.  Actually there are other creatures from the natural world with great sounding names in Spanish.  Murciélago (bat) and luciérnaga (firefly) are […]

CUPOLAS OF CUENCA

The short story ‘Highland Hallucinations‘ that I published on this site started in the beautiful colonial city of Cuenca, Ecuador.  I suggested that the church dominated skyline could hold its own against Saint Petersburg in Russia.  This photograph is my supporting evidence.

ODE TO THE LATIN AMERICAN STREET DOG

Sans shame, you copulate under shop awnings, in parks, down alleys then trot off for post-coital taco scraps on Mexico City corners Slumbering in sunny plazas you dream while fleas run amok across your fur and screw into your rabid flesh I saw you snarl White of your eyes and unknown intentions in the streets […]
