If the accelerated pulse of the immense metropolis begins to grate on your nerves and you find yourself with an overpowering impulse to withdraw your being from the megalopolitan madness of Mexico City, then this station, Autobuses Del Norte, could be of use to you.
Buses depart and arrive with frequency servicing destinations to the north, northeast and northwest of the city.
Maybe a day trip to the mammoth pyramids of Teotihuacan will be enough to appease you.
Further afield isn’t a problem either.
Want to go to all the way to one of the currently infamous US-Mexico border cities such as Tijuana, Ciudad Juarez, Nogales or Matamoros?
Welcome aboard.
And that’s just the beginning.
In past travels I’ve been to the ‘Pink City’, Jaipur, in Rajasthan, India and the ‘Yellow City’, Izamal, in the state of Yucatan right here in the United Mexican States.
Both cities are dominated by edifices of these colours, uniformity maintained by rigorous stipulations.
Well, around this metro station it seems that similar stipulations have been enforced to the taco and torta stands. Red and yellow stripes the order of the day.
And then, by mixture of chance and design, methinks, the combination suddenly seemed to be everywhere.
Just check the gallery.
Later in the visit, undertaking regular project procedure, I was given the call across and invited to partake in a soothing paloma – tequila, squash, on the rocks.
Simple friendship on the street.
With a dark sky enveloping again the time to say goodbye and thanks and leg it back to transport came.
All that remained were a few short pauses for a few further snaps mid-scurry as I began to make my way home again.
as amazing as the pyramids are, Lonely Planet chose to make no mention of them in the guide to Mexico I used in 1985!! sorted it in following editions though, Got a couple of pictures of Izamal on my blog.
That is strange! Well glad you made it there anyway from Indios Verdes! I checked out the photos on your blog, cheers thanks for the comment!
Ah…nice post bringing back memories. Transportes del Norte. I don’t think I ever took one of these buses, but saw them on the highway when we drove in to, or out of, Mexico when I was a child. The name always evoked some kind of longing in me; I always wanted to be on one of these buses riding the roads of Mexico.
