Me bajé en Vallejo y poco después me recibió un letrero que combina dos términos que conozco bastante bien;  Güero y Caguamas.

Ya mencioné el término Güero, aplicado liberalmente a gente de tez clara y a veces a ellos no tan claras también, en mi entrada por Barranca Del Muerto.

El segundo término se refiere a una botella grande de cerveza, 940ml de hecho.  El nombre viene de la palabra de español mexicano de una tortuga del mar.

¿Ves la semejanza?

Si tienes más sed podrías llevarte una caguamon.  Tortuga más grande, cerveza más grande.

Los alrededores de Vallejo son predominantemente una zona industrial.  Cuando visité un sábado por la tarde las calles eran soprendentemente tranquilas – algo raro en el gigante DF.

Losas gigantes de concreto de la acera me recordaron de pedazos de un pastel de lodo, horneado a perfección en el sol achicharrante.

Pozole es un plato mexicano favorito.  Antes o depués de una caguama podrías irte a comer uno en Pozoleria Norte 45.  Supongo que vale la pena decirte que también se solicita ‘muchacha activa’ en caso de la pequeña posibilidad que eres muchacha, activa y buscando trabajo.

Si te encuentras en la zona bajo la cobija de la oscuridad, ten cuidado de un hoyo orondo que se pareca a una portilla, esperando a tragarte.

El espiritu republicano y Juarista está presente en la delegación Acapotzalco.

‘Entre los individuos como entre las naciones el respeto al derecho ajeno es la paz.’

Para volver a la estación hice una caminata larga sobre la que supongo es una pista de ferrocarril abandonada.  Por lo menos no he visto trenes por las pistas de ferrocarril que he visto en la Ciuad de México.

Creo que trenes de carga siguen llegando a la ciudad pero;

¿Cuando llegó el último tren de pasajeros a la Ciudad de México?  Aparte del metro, obviamente.

Arte chido y brillante adornó mi caminata.  Por supuesto.

De vuelta en la estación hay unos reliquias y artefactos de la cultura maya.  Como va un eslogan del sistema:

‘el metro es cultura.’

Finalmente, la imágen de Mario Delgado, quien quiere ser eligido como senador, actualmente está pegado por todos lados.  Al paracer de la desfiguración de su imágen no va a recibir el voto de todos.  Entre en la galería para ver dos de sus fotos – la primera en su apariencia normal, la segunda sin globos oculares en sus cuencas, metamorfoseando a un tuerto extraterrestre.

The second term Caguama refers to a large bottle of beer – 940ml in fact.  The name comes from the Mexican Spanish term for a loggerhead sea turtle.

If you are even thirstier you could go for a caguamon (1.2L).  Bigger turtle, bigger beer.

The surrounds of Vallejo largely comprise an industrial area.  When I visited on Saturday afternoon the streets were remarkably quiet – a rarity in the behemoth of ‘El DF’.

Giant slabs of cracked sidewalk concrete reminded me of pieces of a mud pie baked to perfection in a blistering sun.

Pozole, a hearty soup/stew, is a favourite Mexican dish.  Pre or post caguama you could drop in for one at Pozoleria Norte 45.  I guess it’s worth letting you know that they are also seeking an ‘active girl’ in the off chance that you are a girl, active and in the job market.

If you’re ever in the zone under the blanket of darkness, be careful of a sidewalk rotund porthole-like booby trap just waiting to swallow you up.

The republican and juarist spirit are alive and well in Azcapotzalco.

‘Between individuals as between nations the respect of inalienable rights is peace.’

To loop back to the station I went for a long walk along what I assume to be disused railway tracks?  I haven’t seen any trains running along them at least.

I think freight trains still arrive to the city but;

When did the last passenger train arrive to or depart from Mexico City?  Obviously apart from the metro.

Some nice, bright art adorned my wander.  Of course.

Back in the station there are some relics and artefacts from the Mayan culture.  As goes a slogan of the system:

‘el metro es cultura’.

Finally, the image of Mario Delgado, who is running for the senate at this year’s election, is currently plastered all over the city.  A veritable everywhere man.  Judging by the defacement of one of his images he’s not going to get everybody’s vote.  Check the gallery for two of his photos – the first in his ordinary guise, the second sans eyeballs in their sockets, metamorphising into a forehead rooted one-eyed alien.
