Ollas, licuadores, zapatos, relojes.

Exiting the station at Merced places you smack bang in the middle of one of Mexico City’s busiest and most chaotic marketplaces.

Pots, pans, blenders, shoes, watches, locks.

Tea blends for whatever ails you.

Spices and chiles galore.

Mole pastes and powders.

Dried fish and shrimp.

Workers taking some time out to watch the match of the day.

Jovial butchers horsing round.

Perfumed corridors of the flower market gearing up for the Valentine’s Day rush.

And ‘La Merced’ itself, the church.  A relative bastion of tranquility.
