The voice of Andrea Echeverri, the lead singer of Colombian band Aterciopelados, first came to my attention way back in the mid 90s when I heard her accompany Gustavo Cerati in the Soda Stereo classic ‘en la ciudad de la furia” at their MTV unplugged concert. I really like this song and have been meaning do my own English translation for a while. It was an interesting journey into the lyrics. Spanish lyrics here. Enjoy!
and he says…….
in my pockets you look for the proof of another love
strands of hair in my lapel, my smile gives me away
lipstick on my shirt, my alibi torn to shreds
I’ve given myself away, cheating has an art to it
I’ve had it up to here
You’re not my better half
nor the eighth wonder of the world
it’s bad if it is, it’s bad if it isn’t
Don’t even ask
I’m not myself anymore
You’ve got me so far outside of myself
If I come, may I not go
If I am, may I lose myself
If I have, may I not give
If I am, may I come
In your hands I lose the sense of feeling
Your caresses have taken me away
Later, in your mouth
Those kisses are of another
Who will be that bitch who doesn’t let me love you?
If I find her I’ll split her face open
I’ve had it up to here
You’re not my better half
nor the eighth wonder of the world
it’s bad if it is, it’s bad if it isn’t
Don’t even ask
I’m not myself anymore
You’ve got me so far outside of myself
I told you no more and you pissed yourself laughing
I told you no more and you pissed yourself laughing
Thank you so very much for the fantastic translation! It is wonderful that there are people such as yourself that do this. It helps English only speaking people understand the song meaning or content. I enjoy music from every country and every genre except for Rap and Hip Hop, even though I don’t know the language.
